👩🏻‍💻 Overview

VozComún is a UX/UI design project developed as part of my coursework at EBAC (Escuela Británica de Artes Creativas). While the project itself was a “fictional brief,” the design process was grounded in real research: I conducted user surveys and gathered authentic data to shape the platform’s features and priorities. The goal of VozComún is to create a digital space where local communities can identify, report, and prioritize issues affecting their neighborhoods. By facilitating democratic decision-making and establishing a direct channel between citizens and local authorities, the platform promotes active civic participation and fosters meaningful community impact. This project also allowed me to practice a full design cycle, from problem definition and user research, through wireframing and prototyping, to testing and refining, building a user centered approach that could be applied to real world civic tech solutions.

✏️ Design Process

Research

Conducted comprehensive user interviews and community surveys in Mexico City to understand pain points in local governance and citizen participation, identifying key barriers to civic engagement.

User Personas & Stories

Developed detailed user personas representing different community stakeholders and created comprehensive user stories to guide the design process.

👥 User Flows

I mapped out intuitive user flows to ensure a seamless experience for community members, from issue reporting to engagement and resolution tracking. The flows prioritize simplicity while maintaining comprehensive functionality.

🧩 Wireframes & Design System

I developed low and high-fidelity wireframes, followed by a comprehensive design system that ensures consistency across all touchpoints. The design prioritizes accessibility and ease of use for all community members.

✏️ Design System Components

I created a cohesive design system including typography, color schemes, iconography, and interactive elements that reflect the community-focused nature of the platform.

The final UI is clean, colorful, and community-driven, with a design that feels approachable and easy to use for everyone. Upon launching the app, users are guided through a brief five-screen tutorial that introduces core actions such as liking posts, publishing reports, and engaging through comments to build community.

Among several tools available, the app also includes an interactive map where users can explore reports submitted in their area or search other neighborhoods to stay informed. A dedicated notification center helps users stay connected by alerting them when someone interacts with their content or when people they follow share new updates.

These are just a few of the many screens designed to support active civic participation and meaningful local impact, creating a comprehensive platform for community engagement and democratic participation.
